The City Engineer has listed each of the 21 premises separately, but the 1940 street directory shows that some businesses used more than one building for their shop front. I have reflected the business layout in the table below. Like the City Engineer, I have ignored the fact that some buildings had multiple occupancy; for instance there was a jewellers using the upper floor of one of the Rayner shops, and a photographer's studio above Hatt's. It could explain why these addresses are listed as Business Premises rather than shops though.
