Holy Trinity Church in James Street West

Trinity Church was damaged twice. On the first night, it was damaged by the blast from several bombs in Kingsmead Street and one in James Street West, and then on the second night it was burnt out by incendiaries.

One of the churchwardens, Frank Farr-Cox (in the centre of the first picture) kept photographs of the damaged church, and his grandson kindly sent them to me for this website.

The remaining pictures picture show a service being held in the ruins. There is no information on whether this was a special occasion (like the D-Day prayers in St Bartholomew's), or whether they were normal services. But clearly the church suffered a lot of damage, and the congregation was determined not to let that get in the way of their worship.
